No shortage of wild chickens

Red rooster.JPG

There are plenty of wild chickens, or “Junglefowl,” running around Oahu and the rest of Hawaii.  Some are descendants of birds brought to Hawaii by the early Polynesian explorers and settlers.  Others are domestic breeds, or a mix of both.  Some people consider them a nuisance, especially when they crow early in the morning.  Others keep them as pets, enjoy their eggs, or hold cockfights and gamble on their favorites.  Mostly though, they’re just colorful and fun to watch, like this red rooster in Kailua.
