The Rose-ringed Parakeet is becoming a common sight in urban Honolulu.
Flocks can often be seen overhead, screeching as they pass.
It’s widely believed that they are descendants of escaped caged birds, perhaps from a former tourist attraction.
While they’re not inherently a big threat to local plants and animals, there is growing concern that they’re numbers are growing fast enough to make them a threat.
In the meantime, they’re beautiful to look at and add a certain tropical cachet to Honolulu.
